Touring Children's Theatre

For five years we have taught a class titled Touring Children's Theatre at LBCC. In this class students take a folk story and turn it into a short Balinese style shadow play. The first part of the class students identify the story they would like to work with. We have used folk tales from Mexico, Asia and the United States. From that story they collaboratively write a script. From the scripts the shadow puppets are made. During this process it are the students who do all of the creative work.

Once we have a script and puppets then rehearsals begin. We spend two week s rehearsing the 30 minute play and then take it on the road.  We usually visit 8-12 elementary schools for the the last four weeks of the quarter.

Students really enjoy this this process of creating theatre and having the ability to perform off campus at local elementary schools.
